Tumbledown
Mountain
A virtual tour of the "Loop trail" by SpyStyle (May 2006)
Tumbledown mountain, located 5 miles north of Weld, Maine, USA
Total distance : 5.5 miles (a circuit trail)
Hiking time : 4 to 6 hours
Vertical rise : 1700 feet
Tumbledown mountain is hike #1 in Maine for a reason, this is the hike
that
Will make you fall in love with hiking in Maine. The mountain offers a
wide
variety of climbing experiences, culminating at a beautiful pond
nestled among
it's three peaks. The Loop trail to the summit will provide easy trail
walking, steep
climbing, some boulder scrambling, and even some hand-over-hand on the
rock faces just below the summit. An interesting variety in a trail.

Below are some
pictures I took while hiking the "Loop trail"

This is a view of the trail, towards the beginning

This is a view of the side of
the trail

The people in this picture help to illustrate scale

Looking back at the trail while taking a break

This is a view of the side of the trail

This is a view opposite the trail, if you stop to take a brake this is
what you'll see.

Taking a break on the trail

Half way through the hike you get a great view of the peak

A view opposite the trail

Another view opposite the trail

If you like you can take a break and rock climb, though
it is not necessary to reach the top of the Loop trail

A view of the peak

A view of a distant lake from the peak

Below are some pictures I stitched together in a effort to show wide
views of the peak. It is simply too large to capture in one frame

From the first peak you can see there is a pond between the three peaks.

A pond on top of the mountain

A wide view of the pond. It is nice to go swimming after all that hard
work :)
